Charatan is one of the oldest pipe brands in the world. Founded in London in 1863, the company initially produced mostly meerschaum pipes. The switch to briar led to its breakthrough. Charatan remained family-owned until 1960, when it was sold to Dunhill.
In 2017, the Scottish importer and distributor Tor Imports acquired Charatan, aiming to restore the brand to its former glory.

With this limited tobacco, a successful blend has succeeded as a re-entry. Golden-brown, nutty Burley, sweet Virginia and Black Cavendish combine to create a smooth and creamy experience with notes of vanilla. The aroma is not exaggerated in the foreground, but harmoniously woven into the tobacco taste.

Der Tabak schmeckt nach Vanille und Plätzchen. Durch den relativ hohen Anteil an Black-Cavendish ist der Abbrand aber nicht optimal. Ausserdem wäre eine grössere Beimischung von Virginia oder Burley wünschenwert gewesen, um den Tabakgeschmack zu grundieren. Man hat sich hier aber wohl entschieden, die Aromatisierung stärker in den Vordergrund treten zu lassen. Die Aromatisierung ist aber gut und nicht zu stark. Eine zweite Dose würde ich aber nicht bestellen - hier fehlt irgendwie noch das letzte Quäntchcen, was wirklich guten Tabakgeschmackt auszeichnet.
