Gawith & Hoggarth is probably the most iconic producer of pipe tobacco. The pipe tobaccos are produced using a process that dates back to 1792. Even the same machines are used. Why? This is the only way to reproduce the results of the old methods. This is not possible with new machines.
Additives such as preservatives and humectants are simply not used. Even the subtle toppings come from natural essential oils and extracts. Here you will find tobaccos as pure and "old school" as they can be.
Production takes place in Cumbria in the north of England.
This is a flake with air-dried Virginia tobaccos from the Old Belt, USA. The aroma of woody floral mahogany and creamy almond remains in the background for the smoker, but is sufficient for a pleasantly fragrant room note.

schöner, komplexer Tabkgenuss
Für den in den 80er- und 90er Jahren in UK erhältlichen Mahogany Flake hatte ich mir notiert, dass er geschmacklich deutlich an den legendären Condor Flake erinnert, aber würziger, wenngleich weniger geschmacksintensiv ist, was wohl auch an der Verwendung von Burley im MF liegen dürfte. Geschmacklich hat sich der MF jetzt aber deutlich verändert. Zu riechen und auch gelegentlich zu schmecken ist das fruchtige Aroma des Condor-Flakes, aber eben auch das Aroma von Mandeln, Vanille, Kakao, Geranium, Rosenöl, Karamell und vielleicht etwas Tonka-Bohne. Geschmacklich ähnelt er jetzt mehr dem "1792"-Flake vom Samuel Gawith. Ein weicher, cremiger Fake, der im Geschmack komplex und abwechselnd ist. Der Tabakgeschmack wird durch die Stärke der Aromatisierung nicht unterdrückt. Die Stärke liegt im mittleren Bereich, die Raumnote ist angenehm. Ein empfehlenswerter Tabak.
