Gawith & Hoggarth is probably the most iconic producer of pipe tobacco. The pipe tobaccos are produced using a process that dates back to 1792. Even the same machines are used. Why? This is the only way to reproduce the results of the old methods. This is not possible with new machines.
Additives such as preservatives and humectants are simply not used. Even the subtle toppings come from natural essential oils and extracts. Here you will find tobaccos as pure and "old school" as they can be.
Production takes place in Cumbria in the north of England.
The main feature of this flake is the naturally sweet base ingredients with a high proportion of sun-dried tobaccoof ca. 40%. It also consists of around 30% Virginia - the rest are various Burley and dark air-cured tobaccos. Together with the aroma of maple syrup and rum, this tobacco is a "little sweet treat" for the smoker and those around him!

Beim Öffnen der Dose hat man sofort das stark an Walnuss erinnernde Aroma des Ahornsirup in der Nase, während der Geruch des Rums im Hintergrund bleibt. Entzünden läßt sich der Flake nur mit mehreren Streichhölzern. Geschmacklich wiederholen sich die beim Öffnen wahrgenommenen Nuancen und am Ende des ersten Pfeifendrittels treten durch die dunklen air cured Tabake auch zigarrenartige Töne dazu, wobei der Tabak süß bleibt. Während der zweiten Pfeifenhälfte legt der Tabak dann in der Stärke noch einmal zu. Er ist komplex und bietet vielfältige Geschmacksmomente, sollte aber nicht mit kräftigen Zügen geraucht werden. In der Stärke etwas über dem mittleren Bereich hinterlässt er eine angenehme Rauchnote. Ein unbedingt empfehlenswerter Flake!
