With the aim of producing cigars of world-class quality, the then 18-year-old Eduardo León Jimenes, son of a tobacco farmer, founded the La Aurora cigar factory in 1903. The company is still owned by the founding family today. This makes La Aurora, according to its own statements, the oldest cigar brand in the Dominican Republic.
La Aurora grew continuously and in 1914 was the first cigar manufacturer to introduce a belly band to guarantee the authenticity of its cigars. The characteristic reclining lion has adorned this since 1926.
In the 1950s, Fernando León Asensio took over the helm and continued to expand the business. With the arrival of Guillermo León in the 1980s, the brand gained international fame.
La Aurora is now part of the León Jimenes company and is one of the largest and most important cigar brands in the Dominican Republic. The brand stands for quality and tradition and offers a wide range of cigars for every taste.
Dominicana from La Aurora consists of Dominican puros, wrapped in a Corojo wrapper from the Cibao Valley and topped with a distinctive pigtail.
The medium- to full-bodied vitolas of La Aurora's Dominicana line are Dominican puros. Powerful and balanced, the Short Robusto format takes you on an approximately one-hour aromatic journey. Between pronounced wood, coffee, and roasted notes, you'll find delicate nuances of cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon, and anise.
