León Jimenes is backed by over 100 years of family tradition and one of the oldest factories in the Dominican Republic. In 1903, Eduardo León Jimenes, then 18 years old and the son of a tobacco farmer, founded the La Aurora cigar factory. The company remains owned by the founding family to this day. La Aurora claims to be the oldest cigar brand in the Dominican Republic.
As a tribute to its founder, León Jimenes was introduced as a brand in 1987, characterized by a smooth tobacco blend and encased in light Connecticut wrappers.
León Jimenes' small Corona format consists of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos in the filler, a binder from Brazil, and a light Sumatran Ecuador wrapper. A sweetened mouthpiece has been added. The prominent vanilla note persists throughout the smoke and harmonizes with nuances of cedarwood, leather, and hints of marzipan. The long filler draws medium-firmly, with an even and straight burn. The cigars are made entirely by hand at the Tabacalera La Aurora, i.e., "totalmente a mano," but with a torn filler, which is the official term for this production method in Cuba.
