William "Ashton" Taylor began his career at just 15 years old with the renowned firm Dunhill in London, where he learned the art of pipe making. In the 1980s, he founded his own company, Ashton, known for classic, elegant pipes in the English style. The special quality of Ashton pipes lies not only in their aesthetics but also in their intrinsic values. A special oil-curing of the briar wood gives them a particularly good flavor. The mouthpieces, called "Ashtonite" by pipe smokers, offer the soft bite of ebonite and the easy maintenance of acrylic. Both the oil-curing and the Ashtonite remain company secrets to this day. William Taylor passed on his knowledge to Jimmy Craig, who seamlessly continued production after Taylor's death in 2009, preserving the Ashton tradition.
