Visiting Peder Jeppesen - Insights into his workshop

Neerup, a name frequently encountered in the world of pipe enthusiasts. Behind this name lies a fascinating history and remarkable craftsmanship.

Crafted by Peder Jeppesen, a passionate pipe maker, Neerup pipes offer a unique experience in terms of smoking quality, practicality, and aesthetics.

The name Neerup is not just any brand name, but a family legacy. It comes from one of Peder Jeppesen's grandmothers and thus closely connects the pipes to the family history.

Jeppesen himself lives with his family in Lejre, near the old Danish city of Roskilde. He runs the company together with his son Noah and his wife Bettina as a family business.

For a fascinating insight into pipe making, we visited the workshop of Peder and his family in Denmark. After a warm welcome and lively conversation, we were given the opportunity to observe the production process.

All steps, from shaping the briar blank to the finished pipe, are carried out in the workshop in Lejre. Even the mouthpieces are hand-carved from bar stock. Only the silverwork is sourced from a local silversmith. The creative ideas for the silver decorations come from Peder himself, who draws inspiration from the Lejre area.

Bettina Jeppesen sometimes embellishes the silver with precious stones. The workshop is equipped with all the necessary materials and even some machines from renowned manufacturers, including a sandblasting chamber by W. Ø. Larsen.

What makes Jeppesen pipes special is the use of a copy milling machine to produce the basic shapes of the Basic, Classic, and Structure series. This allows for the precise reproduction of blanks and helps keep costs down. The copy milling machine comes from the Danish Stanwell factory. With this tool, it is possible to keep the price of the pipes consistently low. All other series, such as Ida and Boutique, continue to be made entirely by hand.

What makes Neerup pipes so special? The answer lies in the detailed craftsmanship. The mouthpieces are made of high-quality black acrylic, sometimes also of Cumberland or amber. Applications include stones, acrylic, ebonite, and individual silverwork, which display artistic motifs.

What makes Neerup pipes special is their craftsmanship:

  • Deep and well-crafted tobacco chamber: For optimal flavor and even burning.
  • Perfectly drilled and centered smoke channel: Ensures a cool and pleasant smoke with minimal turbulenz.
  • Precise mouthpiece connection: For a secure fit and long lifespan.
  • Mouthpiece with a large smoke channel diameter and comfortable bite: For a comfortable smoking experience.

Neerup pipes are not only beautiful to look at, but also offer an unparalleled smoking experience and are more than just utilitarian objects.

They are an expression of craftsmanship, passion, and family tradition. For every pipe enthusiast who values quality, aesthetics, and a unique smoking experience, Neerup pipes are a worthwhile investment.
