We're visiting Peterson of Dublin!
Our customers and we love Peterson pipes, and we love Ireland. So we set off for Dublin to give you a firsthand look at Peterson and, of course, to offer you some attractive pipes.
From the pipe shop in Chemnitz, it's not far to Prague Airport. With our camera in tow, the journey began Friday afternoon in Chemnitz. Less than two hours later, we were at Prague Airport, ready to check in.
The plane was parked a bit further away on the tarmac, so we took the bus to our destination and were able to admire the vast airport grounds.
The flight took just under three hours, and because we were flying west, we saw the sunset for almost the entire journey.
It was already dark when we arrived in Dublin. We found a bite to eat and took the bus to our guesthouse in Dublin. A nice bed and breakfast halfway between the airport and the city center. We received a warm welcome and immediately struck up a conversation with our hosts. The owner had once been a student in London and a pipe smoker there. Perhaps our visit rekindled his passion.
To end the day, we made the obligatory visit to an Irish pub.
The following day, we went straight to the city center after breakfast to the real destination of our trip: Peterson of Dublin on Nassau Street, opposite the famous Trinity College.
Our bus stopped near the Peterson store, and we were just a few steps away from the hallowed halls of Dublin's pipe halls.
The tradition of this pipe maker, now in its 150th year, was highly valued and unmistakable. The name Kapp comes from two brothers from Nuremberg who, together with Charles Peterson, founded Peterson of Dublin.
But modernity, with new pipe series and current models, wasn't forgotten and blended seamlessly with the tradition of this venerable company. We chatted with Glen about pipes, pipe tobacco, and enjoyment. Of course, we brought back a few exclusive models for you, not yet available in Germany.
The year of our visit, 2016, was a very special year for Ireland, as it marked the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising of 1916, which laid the foundation for the later independence of the Republic of Ireland.
The entire city was already commemorating the anniversary, and the number 1916 could be seen in many places. To mark the anniversary, Peterson has produced a limited edition of just 100 pipes. It's a pipe in the Irish national colors: green, white, and orange – a pipe with a green mouthpiece, silver band, and orange bowl.
Now we had the rest of the day for sightseeing. Incidentally, the famous Grafton Street and the statue of the legendary Molly Malone are located very close to Peterson.
On Sunday, we said goodbye to our hosts and started our journey home.
Goodbye Dublin. It was a wonderful weekend with you.
Back in Chemnitz, we welcomed the new pipes. They are already available in the shop.
