The origin of the idea for the Toscano (plural: "Toscani") is not 100% proven, but there is a legend that has several sources.
In August 1815, it was once again particularly hot in Florence, as is often the case at this time of year in Italy. A large amount of Kentucky tobacco was being dried in the courtyard of a tobacco factory when a sudden downpour came down unexpectedly and completely soaked the tobacco.
It was decided to simply leave the tobacco, now thought to be lost, in the sun where it slowly fermented. Since the tobacco was considered inferior after the rain treatment, cheap cigars were made from it.
However, these cigars were very popular with the population due to their taste. And so a regular production of cigars made from fermented Kentucky was subsequently established. The enthusiasm for this type of cigar has remained over the decades.
After the end of World War II, there was a high stock in the cigar warehouses and the idea was to cut the cigar in half to reduce the price. Today, these half-length cigars are called Toscanello.
Smoking in the company of a friend quickly became established, which gave the cigar the nickname "friendship cigar". To do this, a Toscano was simply cut in half.
The Toscano has now conquered the international markets. Its character, taste and legendary history have made it a popular pleasure object.
Since the Toscano is made from Kentucky pipe tobacco, it is particularly interesting for pipe smokers. It is also easy to store and does not need to be kept moist in a humidor.
