In the early 1930s, Zippo was founded in Bradford, Pennsylvania, USA by George G. Blaisdell. Zippo lighters are still produced and repaired there today.
It all started with the idea of improving lighters. Blaisdell first developed a lighter from Austria, which caused his friend many problems when using it.
The result was so good that Zippo continues to produce it to this day in almost the same form.
Zippo lighters are subject to a special warranty that is valid for life, but "only" 30 years in Germany for legal reasons.

This Zippo has a special insert for pipe smokers in the case. The ring allows the flame to be used comfortably to light the tobacco surface in the pipe without damaging the wood of the pipe.
