Julius Newman was born in Hungary in 1875 and emigrated with his family in 1888. A middle name was required for the entry papers. Confused, he turned to the immigration officer, who suggested Caesar. Julius Newman liked the idea of being named after a great historical leader and conqueror. The American citizen Julius Caesar Newman was born.
His brothers became tailors, but Julius Caesar wanted to make cigars. So his mother paid an experienced cigar maker $3 a month to train her son. In May 1895, J.C. Newman founded his company, which is still family-owned today.
As a tribute to his family, he created the Brick House brand. Inspired by his parents' house, which was not only the only brick house in the small Hungarian village but also an inn. Here people came together to enjoy the company, the good food, the fine wine or aromatic tobacco products.
The full-bodied, spicy blend of the Brick House Maduro consists of Nicaragua filler and binder as well as a dark, black-brown Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper. Maduro-typical sweetness meets strong, spicy aromas.
