The family business Altinay is now run by the third generation. It all started in 1964 when Necdet Altinay founded his pipe workshop in Eskisehir, Turkey. His son Nedim and grandson Said were taught by the master and introduced to the secrets of meerschaum carving. Over time, the business grew. The high quality standards were rewarded and Altinay now exports its pipes worldwide. Tom Eltang started making and repairing pipes at a very young age. In 1974, at the tender age of 16, he met the legendary pipe maker Anne Julie. After she saw his self-made pipes and recognized the potential, he apprenticeed with her. He worked with her for 3 years, repairing pipes for Pipe Dan and Stanwell and also built some himself.
He built his first pipes under his own name in 1980.
Tom Eltang is now one of the best known and best pipe makers in the world. It is particularly known for its contrasting finish on smooth pipes.
The pipes that are sold under the brand name "Sara Eltang" are also produced by him. In the early stages of the making, an assistant or family members may also help. The Falcon System pipes are almost unchanged for decades on the free market. No wonder - they offer a special smoking experience. The System pipe consists of an unscrewable briar bowl and a metal stummel. On the joint between both parts is a pan located, that collects the condensate. If need be ( i.e. in case too much condensate has been accumulated) the bowl can even be unscrewed mid-smoking. The metal shank helps the cooling of the smoke.
The Falcon pipe are handy if you're on the go, because they can be disassambled. The bowls and stummels are completely interchangeable.

Andrea Pascucci began making pipes in 1989 at the age of 23. At that time he was an employee of a pipe factory in his hometown of Pesaro and learned the secrets of pipe making. Peder Jeppesen from near Roskilde is one of the most famous Danish pipe makers of our time. He got a lot of his artisinal skill from the great pipe makers Karl Erik Ottendahl (Karl Erik pipes) and Erik Nørding (Nørding Pipes). Michele Sottocasa was born in 1983 and studied graphics, photo art and then graphic design. He worked as a graphic designer and art director.
His passion for pipe making developed in the years 2010-2012. Erik Nørding's origins are not in woodworking. Since he is a trained blacksmith and engineer, he has always been fascinated by metals and machines. This is how he finally came to pipe making. By the time of their birth, the brothers Friedrich and Heinrich Kapp from Nuremburg, who's elegant tobacco shop in the 1865 opened on Grafton Street in Dublin, never dreamt that they would become part of a legend.
Friedrich & Heinrich, who called their business “Kapp Brothers” quickly build up a reputation for their self made and sold high quality meerschaum and briar pipes. It wasn't long before Charles Peterson stepped into their shop – with a revolutionary pipe and ambitious plans for the future to come.

They came to an agreement and the company's name was changed to Kapp & Peterson. The name and logo go back to an Italian nobleman of the Renaissance.
After the death of Giancarlo Guidi in 2012, the company was continued by his partner and supplier Maurizio Fraternale.
Ser Jacopo's pipes are generally classic, but with sometimes artistic interpretations of form and, above all, application. Creative approaches come into play, such as in the Picta series, in which the pipes are modeled on famous paintings.

Tom Richard Mehret, born in Karlsruhe, is the person behind Tom Richard Pipes. He has lived in Tönning in northern Germany since 1998. He has been making pipes since 2003 - and very successfully.
