Erik Nørding’s origins do not lie in woodworking; as a trained blacksmith and engineer, he was always fascinated by metals and machinery. It was through this background that he eventually turned to pipe making. An interesting interview with Erik Nørding about his beginnings can be found on Pipedia. Several well-known pipe makers—such as Poul Ilsted and Peder Jeppesen—began their careers in Erik Nørding’s workshop. Today, Erik’s son Knud and Knud’s son Victor also work in the family business in Slangerup, just outside Copenhagen. Nørding pipes encompass a wide range of freehands, handmade pipes, and series-produced models.
