White Elephant

Founded in 1945 in Ettenstatt, Franconia, by Robert Maderholz, White Elephant boasts a long tradition. As the only German manufacturer of pipe cleaners, the brand was renowned for its accessories. In collaboration with Kopp, White Elephant returned to its roots in pipe making—complemented by its own pipe tobaccos crafted from African raw tobaccos.

The Franconian brand White Elephant, based in Ettenstatt, boasts a unique history within the German pipe world. Originally founded as a pipe manufactory by Robert Maderholz in 1945, the company produced its own pipes there until 1984. Over the years, the business specialized in the manufacture of filter media and pipe cleaners. Today, White Elephant is a true institution: the company is the only pipe cleaner producer in Germany—and there are only three such manufacturers in all of Europe. However, the passion for actual pipe making was never lost. In collaboration with the renowned firm Kopp, this traditional brand has returned to its roots and once again offers reliable, elegantly shaped briar pipes. Since 2023, the product range has been complemented by the brand's own line of pipe tobacco. For those new to the hobby, there are mild, aromatic blends available, featuring raw tobaccos sourced exclusively from African growing regions.
