Founded in 1945 in Ettenstatt, Franconia, by Robert Maderholz, White Elephant boasts a long tradition. As the only German manufacturer of pipe cleaners, the brand was renowned for its accessories. In collaboration with Kopp, White Elephant returned to its roots in pipe making—complemented by its own pipe tobaccos crafted from African raw tobaccos.
Briar is currently rare because, after the Corona pandemic, many workers in the briar industry looked for other work. However, hardly anyone wanted to go back to the strenuous and demanding job. Together with high demand from Asia, we are currently experiencing a somewhat tighter availability for good quality and large blocks than a few years ago.
These pipes with large bowls are all the more astonishing. A small Italian manufacturer was able to organize a limited number of large blocks and has now built these beautiful pipes for White Elephant. It's worth getting one!
