Charatan is one of the oldest pipe brands in the world. Founded in London in 1863, the company initially produced mostly meerschaum pipes. The switch to briar led to its breakthrough. Charatan remained family-owned until 1960, when it was sold to Dunhill.
In 2017, the Scottish importer and distributor Tor Imports acquired Charatan, aiming to restore the brand to its former glory.

It consists of golden brown, nutty Burleys and lots of naturally sweet Virginias. There is also Black Cavendish with a gentle and creamy aroma of plum, vanilla and some mirabelle plum.
