According to the stories, Fidel Castro was offered a cigar by his bodyguard. It impressed him, and the torcedor Eduardo Rivera, whose hand it came from, was hired as his personal cigar roller.
Cohiba is considered the top brand among Habanos, originally created exclusively for Fidel Castro in 1966 in the secret El Laguito factory in Havana. For a long time, it was reserved for the state leadership and only given as a gift to high-ranking state guests.
The brand was not released for free sale until 1982. The El Laguito factory—the first post-revolutionary brand—processes the best tobacco harvest. Cohiba is known for an additional, third fermentation of the ligero and seco leaves in cedar barrels, which characterizes its distinctive flavor of roasted aromas, grass, coffee, cocoa, and vanilla.
The Cuban Puro Cohiba Wide Short offers a short and intense cigarillo-style experience. The Cohiba Wide Short has been enriching the Habanos Cuban Mini Cigar market since the beginning of 2024. This larger format – made from the finest tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo region – is designed to develop the typical Cohiba aroma longer and more delicately than the traditional short cigar.
