more product details
León Jimenes is backed by over 100 years of family tradition and one of the oldest factories in the Dominican Republic. In 1903, Eduardo León Jimenes, then 18 years old and the son of a tobacco farmer, founded the La Aurora cigar factory. The company remains owned by the founding family to this day. La Aurora claims to be the oldest cigar brand in the Dominican Republic.
As a tribute to its founder, León Jimenes was introduced as a brand in 1987, characterized by a smooth tobacco blend and encased in light Connecticut wrappers.
León Jimenes' small Corona format consists of tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Peru in the filler, a binder from Brazil, and a light Sumatra Ecuador wrapper. Mildly spicy aromas of tobacco, wood, and grass, which become more bitter toward the end of the short smoke, accompany up to half an hour of smoking pleasure. The cigars are made entirely by hand at the Tabacalera La Aurora, i.e., "totalmente a mano," but with a torn filler, which is the official term for this production method in Cuba.
