Rattray's looks back on a long history. It was in 1911 when Charles Rattray, a trained pipe tobacco blender, fulfilled his dream of owning his own pipe shop in Perth, Scotland. Today, the brand with Celtic roots is known for its pipes bearing the Triskele logo and pipe tobaccos, mostly made with traditional Scottish blends.
The pipe is a resemblance of a whiskey barrel and even carries the typical copper ring as an ornament. The Devil's Cut is thick walled and stands on its own.
The Reverse Calabash System uses a specialized concept of cooling, drying and filtering of the smoke. The smoke is lead into a distortion chamber where it can cool and dry. In addition a 9 mm filter can be put be in to amplify the filtering.
Because of the Reverse Calabash System the pipe generates a very pleasant smoking experience within a compact design
The G version features a German-made graphite insert in the bowl. The insert is fireproof, heats up slowly, and cools down slowly. Minimal moisture buildup is also achieved. It's flavorless and easy to clean. The buildup of a carbon crust is thus neither possible nor necessary. You can also change tobacco repeatedly without worrying about ghosting (flavor transfer to the next filling).
