Immerse yourself in the world of pipe making: A visit to the Vauen pipe factory in Nuremberg.

On November 20, 2024, a public holiday only in Saxony, we and our staff embarked on a very special trip: We visited the world-famous Vauen pipe factory in Nuremberg.

An experience that left a lasting impression and deeply moved us.

We received a warm welcome from Martin Ramsauer, the managing director of Vauen, who passionately introduced us to the fascinating world of pipe making.

Step by step, he explained how a unique smoking experience is created from a raw piece of briar wood.

During the production process itself, we witnessed impressive craftsmanship.

We saw how the briar blocks are stored and dried for years before they are given their initial shape.

We marveled at the precise work of the machines and the delicate hand movements of the experienced employees.

The production of the characteristic shanks of the Shire pipes, which are dried in a small oven at 100°C, was particularly fascinating.

Another highlight was the insight into the processing of the mouthpieces and fittings. With great dedication, Martin Ramsauer showed us how the precious wood pipes with their briar inserts are created.

Did you know that the white dot on the White Dot pipes isn't pure white, but gray, for trademark reasons?

Such small details make the Vauen story even more interesting. After manufacturing, the pipes are carefully lacquered and then polished to a high gloss. Each individual pipe undergoes rigorous quality control before receiving its final stamp.

To conclude our tour, we enjoyed delicious Nuremberg pretzels and gingerbread and took the opportunity for a lively conversation with Martin Ramsauer and Julia Eckert.

We were overwhelmed by the warmth of our welcome and the passion evident in every single employee.

It quickly became clear to us: Behind every Vauen pipe lies not only skilled craftsmanship, but also a deep love for detail and a great deal of passion.

Our visit to Vauen was an unforgettable experience.

We thank Martin Ramsauer, Julia Eckert, and the entire team for their warm hospitality and the many impressions. We will definitely be back!
