La Biota

La Biota

Michele Sottocasa was born in 1983 and graduated in graphics, photographic art and then graphic design. He worked successfully as a graphic designer and art director before discovering his passion for pipe making in 2010-2012. Under the name "la Biota", which means "naked" in the Lombard dialect, he developed his own philosophy: A pipe should not hide any secrets, but embody the absolute truth. It should be an object that speaks for itself and needs no explanation. In his pipes he combines two concepts: on the one hand the revival of classic elements with his own interpretation and on the other hand the connection to nature. He only uses Italian briar wood and likes to add spectacular horn rings, deer antlers and other appliqués. His craftsmanship is first class and creates a unique connection between nature and man.
