The Caminetto brand looks back on a very long, but also eventful history.
In the 1960s, Guiseppe Ascorti and Luigi Radice worked as pipe makers at the Castello company. Over the years, Guiseppe acquired tools and machinery to make his own pipes.
In 1968, the moment finally came: Ascorti founded his own workshop and brought Radice with him as a pipe maker. They found a suitable distributor and financier in Milanese tobacco shop owner Gianni Davoli.
The brand name was born one evening as the three sat together by the fire enjoying a glass of wine. Caminetto is the Italian word for fireplace. At that time, Ascorti and Radice wore mustaches – this led to the brand's mustache logo and the nickname "La pipa del baffo" (The Pipes with the Mustache).
Caminetto sold pipes worldwide with increasing success. Ascorti's son, Roberto, also occasionally joined the company. At its peak, up to 7,000 pipes were produced annually.
After several years of successful work, however, discontent arose between the three Caminetto veterans. Radice was dissatisfied with the mass production of pipes and preferred more creative work. He and Ascorti shared concerns about declining quality due to the large number of pieces produced. Davoli, on the other hand, feared losing his influence in the company, as Ascorti wanted to employ his son full-time.
When Radice left the company in 1979, Ascorti followed a few months later, and Caminetto ceased to exist.
Ascorti subsequently produced pipes under his own name, "Ascorti," together with his sons.
After acquiring the Caminetto name rights many years later, production was initially carried out separately and later under the same roof as Ascorti pipes.
Today, Guiseppe Ascorti's grandson, Tommaso Ascorti, is in charge and continues the family tradition. The pipes are handcrafted in small batches in Italy.
When manufacturing Caminetto pipes, special attention is paid to their excellent smoking qualities. They feature perfect bores and a pipe shape that is always personally tested by the owner. Equipped with a 9mm filter option.
