A Cult Object Through Looks, Technology, and Charm

In the world of pipe smokers, there are always pipes that make the heart beat faster. The Rattray's Devil's Cut series is one such exceptional pipe. These pipes are not only a visual delight but also impress with their technical details. The design is inspired by whisky barrels, and the pipes are adorned with copper bands that give them a rustic yet elegant look.

What truly distinguishes these pipes, however, is their Reverse Calabash System. This system ensures a cool and dry smoke, making the smoking experience significantly more pleasant. In addition, a 9mm filter further enhances the filtration effect, resulting in an exceptionally pure smoking experience. This combination of design and function makes the Rattray's Devil's Cut series a true highlight for pipe enthusiasts.

Naming

Besides the Angel's Share, the portion of alcohol that evaporates during storage and is shared with the angels, the Devil's Cut is the portion of alcohol that disappears into the barrel wall and is shared with the devil.

Further Development

Due to a shortage of sufficiently large briar blocks, only small quantities could be produced at any one time, which quickly sold out. The solution initially involved olive wood versions, and now the version with graphite inlay – a highlight that has already proven very popular in the White Elephant Sahara & Cameroon series.

The graphite insert, manufactured in Germany, is fireproof, heats up and cools down slowly, and produces very little moisture. It is flavor-neutral and easy to clean. Therefore, the formation of a charcoal crust is neither possible nor necessary. You can also change the tobacco repeatedly without worrying about ghosting (the flavor transferring to the next bowl). Overall, its properties are similar to those of the much more expensive Meerschaum.

This approach allows for the use of materials other than briar. For the Devil's Cut, ash from South America was chosen, its wave-like grain creating a captivating visual effect.

The following options are available:

  • Rattray's Devil's Cut Pipe G Natural: Natural wood, waxed. The naturally finished surface darkens over time, developing a stunning appearance.
  • Rattray's Devil's Cut Pipe G Black: Black finish. Elegant combination with the copper band. No discoloration occurs.
