The story of Stanwell is one of pioneering spirit. Founded during World War II by Poul Nielsen, the brand revolutionized pipe smoking by collaborating closely with renowned Danish freehand pipe makers such as Sixten Ivarsson. Stanwell demonstrated that it was possible to produce flawless pipes featuring Danish design while maintaining the highest standards of series production.

When the historic factory in Borup, Denmark, closed in 2010, production relocated to Italy. Although the pipes are no longer made in Denmark, one thing has remained constant: the expertise. The Italian partner workshop possesses decades of experience in woodworking, precision drilling, and finishing. We have closely examined the newly arrived pipes and can confirm that the build quality is superb—from the fit of the stem to the draw.

The fact that Stanwell had become hard to find in this country in recent years was due to complex distribution structures within the parent company (Scandinavian Tobacco Group). This is where the Offenbach-based firm Kopp stepped in: they have not only taken over the licenses and distribution but also secured the rights to design future shapes and series.

This is fantastic news for fans of the brand. Kopp has long stood for absolute passion in the pipe sector and knows exactly what pipe smokers value. These design rights guarantee that the legendary Danish heritage will not merely be preserved but actively developed for the future through fresh ideas, exclusive finishes, and well-conceived series.
