In 1982, the Italian designer Giancarlo Guidi founded the Ser Jacopo pipe manufacturer. He had previously learned his craft at Mastro de Paja, one of the most renowned pipe manufacturers in Italy.
Ser Jacopo's name and logo come from an Italian Renaissance nobleman who was known for his artistry and sense of beauty.
After Giancarlo Guidi's death in 2012, his partner and supplier Maurizio Fraternale took over the management of the company.
Ser Jacopo's pipes are generally classic, but with a certain artistry in shape and application. For example, there is the Picta series, in which the pipes are designed after famous paintings.
All of Ser Jacopo's pipes bear the slogans "Fatta a mano" (Handmade) and "Per aspera ad astra" (Through hardship to the stars).
