Borkum Riff

Although its name suggests the North Sea, Borkum Riff originally comes from Sweden. Since the 1960s, the brand has stood for premium aromatic blends. Its international breakthrough came in 1969 with the "Bourbon Whiskey" variety, which is now marketed as the Bronze Edition. Another classic is the Ruby line with its delicate vanilla and cherry aromas. The iconic ship on the packaging—an engraving from the 17th century—is a reminder of the eponymous lighthouse in the North Sea. Since 2024, the brand has been part of the Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG).

The story of Borkum Riff is one of international success and timeless blending tradition. Launched in Sweden during the 1960s, the brand quickly established itself as a pioneer in well-balanced, pleasantly aromatic tobaccos. Its historic breakthrough arrived in 1969 with the introduction of its signature "Bourbon Whiskey" blend—today celebrated globally as the Bronze Edition. Borkum Riff tobaccos are expertly crafted using a harmonious base of selected Virginia and Black Cavendish leaves, known for their cool burn and smooth smoking characteristics. Among its legendary lineup, the Ruby Edition stands out with its alluring, delicate notes of dark cherry and smooth vanilla, while the classic Bronze Edition remains a benchmark for rich, oak-aged Kentucky bourbon flavor. Adorned with its iconic 17th-century engraving of a sea captain's vessel navigating near the historic North Sea lighthouse, Borkum Riff combines maritime heritage with dependable quality. Since 2024, the brand has been part of the Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG), ensuring that these easy-smoking, pleasantly aromatic favorites continue to delight pipe smokers worldwide.
